Salvage Center

Recently I passed a sign for a salvage center. I laughed to myself and remembered back to when it was called a junk yard. I guess salvage sounds better than junk just like pre-owned sounds better than used. Hey there was even a time when someone my age was considered old, but now I am seasoned! It is all in the wording. Well anyway, the salvage center got me thinking about the “stuff” in there.

Just driving by, it looked uninviting and messy. Not the kind of place I would want to hang out at. However, someone took time to look at damaged and rejected items and make a determination that they were worth saving. Someone found worth and value in what appeared to be damaged goods. Someone rescued these items from further destruction by deeming the items reusable. Someone salvaged these goods.

That is exactly what Jesus Christ has done for us. He salvages us. He saves us. He takes our damaged and wrecked lives and recues us.

Isaiah 61:1-3 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”

Jesus heals broken hearts. Jesus delivers from bondages. Jesus makes something beautiful out of ashes. Jesus puts a song into the heavy hearts. Jesus takes old, used junk and gives new life to it.

2 Corinthians 6:2 “For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Jesus has the power to make the glory of this latter house greater than the former (Haggai 2:9). Jesus has the power to take any life and make something beautiful out of it.

Dear Lord, thank You for hope. In You, old things are passed away and all things become new.  2 Corinthians 5:17

Psalm 55:16 “As for me, I will call upon God; and the Lord shall save me.”
