Look in the Book!

Recently I caught one of my favorite episodes of the Andy Griffith show. The sheriff Andy had the responsibility of upholding the law and evicting an elderly gentleman from his place of residence because the man could not pay his taxes. (Oh yes, it is just about that time…April 15)  Okay back to the story, Andy did what needed to be done and with suggestions from Aunt Bee and Opie, they invited the now homeless man to live with them.

In walked the gentlemen to the Taylor house with a small metal box in his hands. “What’s in the box?” Opie asked. “My most valuable treasures” replied the house guest.

It turns out that this financially broke and homeless man was not financially broke after all. In his little metal box was a treasure that he was not even aware of: a hundred-year-old savings bond.

This man had what he needed with him the whole time. It was not until he opened the box and really looked into it that he discovered a treasure.

I don’t know what you need. You may not even know what you need, but you know something is missing in your life.

I pray this week that you will choose to open the treasure of God’s Word. In His Word, the Bible, you can find peace and hope. You can find encouragement, strength, guidance, and salvation.

Psalm 119:25-32 “My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word. I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes. Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works. My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word. Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously. I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O Lord, put me not to shame. I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.”
