A Fountain of Life

fountainA Grand Opening of a Hobby Lobby store is an event. The community usually shows up in full force and what a spirit of excitement. I have noticed it does not matter if it is California, New York, or Iowa; there is a strong support for us.

One of the last grand openings I attended happened to be over a holiday weekend. At times, because of the holiday, community chamber members and ambassadors may not be there. Well not at this one! The holiday weekend was not stopping this community! They were getting “their” own Hobby Lobby and they were thrilled!

I realized the night before as I drove around, some other retailers and service industries were closing down. No community likes that. So that next day, the ribbon cutting was special. Not only was a new business opening its doors, but it brought hope and life.

I watched customer after customer stop by to visit with James, the regional VP, and the other management team members just to say thanks. I could not help crying after seeing a council member try to compose himself and find words to express what he was feeling. He never did have words, but his tears spoke loudly!

We really do have only one life. And I can’t think of a better legacy than a life that brings life and hope to those around us. Someone many years ago shared the love of God with me and for some reason, it just clicked! I believed that God did and does love me and what hope and life that brought to me. So way back then, I made a promise to myself and God, with His help, I will help bring life to those around me.

Sure that has not always happened, but I sure try. A manager shared with me a few weeks ago the analogy of being a drain or a fountain, just meaning, taking or giving life. (Thanks Jack for sharing that)

I pray this week we will all be stirred to bring life to someone! Hobby Lobby, as a company, is known for bringing life into communities. How cool is that, we are a part of that. But may it become our personal mission….. to be a fountain of God’s Love!

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
